Lake Tahoe Activities Winter 2019

North Lake Tahoe offers amazing winter activities for snowsport enthusiasts as well as those not interested in skiing. Travelers seeking unique experiences in a beautiful area can find numerous ways to spend their days and nights in Lake Tahoe. Traditionally thinking of Tahoe winters with the focus on downhill skiing, apres dining and casinos leaves out many potential ways to enjoy a visit to the mountains.

Bundle up, go outside and enjoy winter! The natural beauty of the area takes on a new look in winter with crisp white snow fields, brilliant blue skies and lake, mountains and more. A bit less adventurous than snowshoeing, but, still a nice way to take a stroll in nature; the bike trail between Tahoe City and Squaw Valley is maintained year-round and offers a scenic walk along the Truckee River. The same trail can be used to stroll along the lake in Tahoe City, start at Commons beach and walk past the marina and Boatworks Mall. If you would like a more wilderness based experience, guided snowshoe hikes can be arranged through local companies and resorts who will provide the equipment and lead you to the best terrain based on your ability level.

Interesting Historical sites around Lake Tahoe and Truckee can be explored and experienced while visiting some of the local museums. From the Native American inhabitants of the area to the fabled Donner Party. The early pioneering families to the 1960 Winter Olympics have all had a great impact on the area’s unique culture. In addition to the museums there are some buildings and plaques located in historic places around Tahoe City and Truckee.

From comedians to music in many genres there’s great options for entertainment most weekends and nightly around town. Shows are frequently held at the Casinos around the stateline in north and south shore Lake Tahoe. Catch a movie at the Art House Theater in Tahoe City, featuring comfortable seating including couches as well as beer and wine at their bar.

Create art, drink wine, shop and eat all at the Cobblestone in Tahoe City. This small shopping center in town offers a handful of activities to enjoy in one easy stop! Create a personal souvenir or just be creative at All Fired Up pottery painting and candle making. Sip some wine at Uncorked wine bar then shop at some of the best stores anywhere for women, men and children clothing, housewares, art, pets and more.

Eat! There are fabulous restaurants throughout north Lake and Truckee. A few of my favorites are; Wolfdales Cuisine Unique in Tahoe City, Drunken Monkey in Truckee, Best Pies Pizza in Truckee and Lanza’s Italian in Kings Beach.

Most resorts offer Spas and spa services, however, there are several local spas and massage service providers to help you relax and unwind. Yoga studios are numerous and many offer a variety of classes for different ability levels and needs.
