If you’re considering building a new home in the Lake Tahoe basin the timeline has already begun. Purchasing a vacant lot in Lake Tahoe in order to build your dream home is just the beginning. Hopefully you are doing your homework as there is a lot that goes into new construction and many things unique to Tahoe (IPES, Coverage, TRPA, Snowload calcs., just to name a few). Placer county allows for new construction in the basin to begin on the 15th of May each year. This usually gives builders enough time for the beginning stages of residential construction (excavation, framing, roofing, etc.) to be underway and/or done before winter. Unfortunately the regional agencies that provide the required review and approval of plans can take upwards of 2 or more months to sign off on a project just to break ground. There is the saying that construction takes longer and costs more than what you think it will… so get started!
